General notes

It is possible to study in Russian at the university. Remember, that only General Medicine, Pharmacy, Pediatric, and International Faculties are opened for foreign citizens now, but not the Stomatology (Dentistry) faculty. We offer Preparatory Department  and Russian Language Center for those who do not know Russian with further admission of these persons to Russian-medium education as regular students.

English-medium education is also available at our university at the International Faculty (with specialization in General Medicine) from October 2023, this is our new project with full-time education in English (i.e., from the first year of education up to the sixth year of education) including 1 year internship course incorporated in the educational schedule.


Admission to YSMU

Please remember that all admission procedures for students, residents, and graduate students are controlled and supported only by the Admission Committee. Please contact officials of Admission Committee with any questions regarding deadlines, dates, admission tests, time, etc. using direct link.

List of mandatory required documents:

Russian-medium education

English-medium education:

  1. Identity document (s) with citizenship - copy of Passport and a notarized translation into Russian, officially legalized at the Russian Embassy in the country of issue (or have an Apostille mark). NOTE: The applicant's passport must be valid for at least 18 months (1.5 years) from the start of education.
  2. Document of education - senior or secondary high school educational certificate, transcripts and supplementary materials that are officially legalized at the Russian Embassy in the country of their issue (or have an Apostille mark). These documents must be accompanied by notary certified translations into Russian (this can be done at the Russian Embassy in the country where the education documents are issued, any other notary or organization translations are not acceptable).
  3. Twelve (12) photographs (3,5x4,5 cm):
  • Correct photo size: the width and height of the photo should be 35 mm and 45 mm, respectively.
  • Color: The photograph should be in color.

  • Position of your head: The candidate's face should occupy about 50% of the photo area.

  • Recentness: Photos up to 6 months old are accepted.

  • Backdrop and settings: The background should be either white or some light color. The setting should not have any design or pattern.

  • Facial expression: Maintain a neutral facial expression. Your mouth should be closed.

  • Eyes: Wide and open. The candidate should look straight into the camera.

  • Sunglasses or other wear which detracts from the face are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons

  • Attire: Law enforcement uniforms are not allowed.

  • Headdresses: It is forbidden to wear headgear unless it is required for religious or medical purposes.

     4. A certificate of health status, together with a notarized translation into Russian, officially legalized at the Russian Embassy in the issuing country, any other notary or organization translations are not acceptable (or have an Apostille mark).
     5. A list of HIV test results, together with a notarized translation into Russian, officially legalized at the Russian Embassy in the issuing country, any other notary or organization translations are not acceptable (or have an Apostille mark).
     6. An application for consent to the processing of personal data.


Remember that all the documents mentioned above are mandatory, but the Admission Committee reserves the right to extend this list or to demand other documents that are nor mentioned above but that are essential for consideration of your application.


Fees

Note: All the payments should be done in Rubles only. Ruble ratio to other international currencies is fluctuating as a result of market changes; please, see actual information at the appropriate sites. Main educational rules

Education of foreign students is conducted in accordance with plans and syllabuses valid at Yaroslavl State Medical University (these are in strict adherence with Federal and State Educational Standards of Russian Federation).

After successful graduation from YSMU, foreign students will receive corresponding documents that certify their education or qualification or degree in accordance with the educational system structure, which exists in Russia. Foreign students will obtain the diplomas that give them the right to carry out professional activities in accordance with the level of education, qualification, and law restrictions.


Visa Support

Foreign citizens wishing to study at Yaroslavl State Medical University (YSMU) will receive electronic invitations, which enable them to obtain an official entrance visa for Russia from the Russian Embassy in their home country.

To acquire a visa, foreign candidates must present the official invitation from YSMU when applying at the Russian Embassy. The Department of International Education at YSMU provides these official invitations free of charge, without any advance or subsequent fees.

Upon enrollment at YSMU, foreign students must apply for temporary residence in Russia, which must be officially registered in accordance with Russian immigration laws. It is essential for foreign students to keep their visa and other important documents safe and readily available for inspection, as required by the regulations for foreign citizens in the Russian Federation.


Postgraduate Education

Graduates, including international students, who hold a diploma and demonstrate research potential, have the opportunity to enroll in postgraduate studies across more than 30 licensed specialties.


Living Conditions and Accommodation

International students, whether in preparatory courses, undergraduates, or postgraduates, are provided with accommodation in comfortable student dormitories. Please note that accommodation fees are not included in the tuition and must be paid separately. Dormitory rooms typically accommodate 2-3 students. Facilities available include a dining hall, kitchens, showers, and a medical room.


Fundamental Library

The main scientific library at Yaroslavl State Medical University has been operational since 1944 and currently houses over 500,000 books. This extensive collection includes more than 300,000 items of scientific literature, over 150,000 textbooks, approximately 25,000 foreign literature items, and an additional 25,000 works of fiction. The library serves around 8,000 readers and provides services to more than 20,000 patrons annually.

Since 2000, the library has actively participated in the project aimed at creating a unified library system for the city, which will integrate all libraries in the Yaroslavl region and provide easy electronic access to a wealth of resources and databases. The YSMU library features several computer labs that operate on the principles of free and open access, making them popular among both university staff and students. This initiative is a crucial part of the university's educational and scientific strategy.

Since 1997, librarians and instructors have offered free consultations and educational courses on utilizing modern information databases and citation systems, facilitating access to integrated international databases. The electronic catalog currently contains approximately 32,000 items, and an electronic library for YSMU has also been established.


The internet access

For the last decades, the information technologies are actively developing in the Yaroslavl State Medical University (YSMU). First of all, this is necessary for the improvement of education, for educational and scientific research work as well. These informational technologies are granting some principally new services to students and employees of the university. Now there is available the Informatics Center of Yaroslavl State Medical University.

The university has significant experience in the area of Internet activity. YSMU has its own local network with data transmission speed of up to 1 Gb/s. The main building of the university is connected to this network via fiber-optical channels and via radio-modem communication. There are also available free Wi-Fi areas at YSMU. The university supports its own WWW-server.
